Dave and I met some people during our cruise who are seriously obsessed with cruises. They call themselves "cruisers" and one 70 year old British woman basically lived on them and was traveling all over the world on cruises pretty much non stop.
I can see how they would get addicting to some people. It is a great, comfortable and pretty affordable way to see a bunch of places easily since food, transportation AND lodging are all provided for you. However, the unknown and not having these things all planned out is actually one of my favorite parts about the way we travel!
Flying standby means we can't really plan too far in advance when we are traveling. I know a lot of people think that would be stressful but I love it. I I think that it is so much more exciting and fun to "wing it" on the road along the way. We are free to change our minds on a whim depending on how we feel for the littlest details of even what country or city we want to go to next or the type of accommodation we are feeling: Camp seaside? Comfy hotel? Air bnb? Stay where we are another night or 2?
It's great to stay flexible and things always workout - even if they don't go as planned things NEVER go as planned when traveling anyways. Normally whatever didn't happen according to our plan turns into a better adventure or at least a better story anyways.
So yes, even though the cruise was such a cool experience and I'm glad I got to see what they are all about, I don't think it turned us into "cruisers" just yet. ;)
The pictures below are from our first night onboard! We didn't research the cruise much before since there wasn't a lot of time to and we got such a good deal on the rate that we thought there was no way that 4 course dinners every evening could be included! When the waiter told us that everyone on the whole ship paid for all inclusive (with the all you can drink package add-on available) we were amazed.
All other airline employees/flight crews out there really have to check out the crazy cruise deals on the ID90 site!
