Hawthorn Hallow is a hidden gem. It is a beautiful, small nature sanctuary with protected walking trails and 3 little historic buildings. 2 old schools built in 1847 and 1906 and a town hall built in 1859. It is a quiet and peaceful place. We ended up sitting in one of the schools flipping thru fascinating old, old national geographic magazines which were left on a bookshelf inside. It was a nice way to spend a couple hours in a quiet and peaceful setting and a wonderful reminder of the importance to get into nature as much as possible because nothing else does a soul as good as a walk surrounded by untouched, natural beauty.
You can read more about Hawthorn Hallow at their website HERE as well as a nice little description I enjoyed reading on the older school HERE. (SIDE NOTE: For anyone else wondering what in the world an arboretum is, I learned that it means there is a collection of only trees.)
