Dave and I recently returned from a week long road trip along the California Pacific Coast Highway. We flew into San Diego and out of San Francisco and hit up so many amazing cities along the coast in between. I am so glad I was recording the details about this trip as they happened in my phone notes because I love looking back on all the little things I would have otherwise forgotten about unless I wrote them down in the moment. I have taken those notes from my phone and combined them with our trip photos to document this epic trip.
Day 1
I love how short the flight is from Vegas to California and how often I've been able to get to California this past month.
After our 45 minute flight, we took an Uber to the Courtyard San Diego Downtown which was an amazing hotel Dave used his Marriott points to book. The hotel used to be an old bank and many of the details from the building's days as a bank have been preserved. As I write this, I'm sitting in front of the "safe deposit meeting room" which still has the original huge safe door from the bank as it's entrance! The main lobby is breathtaking as well with its insanely high ceilings. After staying in so many cookie cutter hotels with our jobs in the airline industry it's a breath of fresh air to stay somewhere original.
Last night we first got dropped off at the wrong hotel down the street which ended up being a blessing in disguise because we had to walk by the comedy club we ended up getting to see Craig Robinson (AKA Daryl from the office) perform at last night. After searching Yelp for an hour to find the best fish taco place, we ended up at a spot the hotel desk guy recommended called Lolita's right next to Petco park. It was a nice walk from the hotel and the fish tacos were to die for. Then we walked to "The American Comedy Co." which was an adorable place. It was an intimate basement setting with candles in mason jars on all the tables and specialty snazzy cocktails. We got seats just 3 rows back from the stage and had a blast. Day one was certainly a success.
Day 2
We had a morning gym sesh and went for a morning run along the harbor downtown San Diego before heading off to get our rental jeep! Riding with the jeep totally open along such epic views is such a blast!
Lunch near the ocean in La Jolla at Catania was perfection. I had the arugula salad with local Halibut, pears, Parmesan, almonds and a thick aged balsamic. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching and the ocean breeze. Such a wonderful place with top quality food I highly recommend if you are ever in San Diego!
After our hike we did the 2 hour drive to Huntington Beach where we booked an adorable Airstream Airbnb for 2 nights! The drive along the coast with the top down and music up was as chilly as it was fun! I am so glad Dave decided to get the jeep for the drive. If you ever do this trip, make sure you get a fun car!
I can't wait to share with you all the rest of our week long Pacific Coast Highway road trip!
With love,
